It's not just about 'bums in pews'

SARAH:

Rev Sarah BrownEveryone always thinks that church growth just means more ‘bums in pews.’ That will be wonderful of course- and in fact we have increased our average Sunday attendance by 15 people in the last three years despite losing at least  6. But Church growth is not just for its own sake.

Church growth is about Christ’s work and Kingdom being spread and grown. It is about building God’s Kingdom and it is the job of the baptized in Christ- that’s you and me.

So Church growth, or Braunston’s share of Kingdom growth is about a number of things. Have a look at the flower picture on the right or download it using the link below!

We don’t start with congregation growth though we pray that it will happen. Jesus did not sit in one place, put up a sign and expect people to go to him. People did go to him- in droves- but they did so because of what he said and did and because of who he was.

The same will be true of our church. If people see Jesus here they will come. So we put congregation growth at the bottom of our list because first we have to make sure that Jesus is visible!
