Heritage Lottery Fund Delivery Project December 2015/January 2016

Work continues on our church roof and stonework.  The gutter work is almost complete and we are re-slating all the inner roof slopes which have been disturbed by reforming the lead gutters.  This work should avoid any major new roof works for many years to come.  However, the recent gales and heavy rain have slowed progress on the roof so it is touch and go whether we will have all the work completed by Christmas.  If not, then the construction industry 2 week shutdown over Christmas/ New Year may delay completion, with removal of scaffolding by mid/end January.

The flue of the rebuilt chimney on the boiler house has been cleared out and tested so our heating system is thankfully functioning again.  Work on rain-damaged plasterwork and then repainting starts at the end of November.

Display board of works progressThe Heritage Lottery Fund approved our progress report and they subsequently transferred the next grant payment to our bank account.

A PowerPoint presentation, prepared as part of this project, covering the history of our church and its contents was delivered to the Dick Herne History Society in October.  All the new Church Guides have been printed and are now being assembled.  Final discussions have been held with our designer on the new Area information Boards and work continues on further developments to the Children’s Discovery Trail.  Once the scaffolding is removed we will commission the 360 degree video of the church interior to be available on Google.

In anticipation of project completion in January we have set February 6th as the date for our end of project celebration to be held in church.  This will be a Songs of Praise event using the same programme as that held by the BBC at Braunston Marina in 1999.  See the February BVN for final details.
