Repeated Invitation to lunch at the Rectory

All members of the congregation, regular or irregular, are warmly invited to lunch in the garden on Sunday 3rd September from 1pm. Please bring a plate and cutlery and we'll supply the rest!

Stop and rest!
Do we know when to stop and how to take time out to restore our souls?  It is not good to be always busy, always active, always working. To give to others we must allow ourselves to rest in God.

Funeral Pat Edwards

This will be at 11am on Friday 1st September.

Almighty Lord who sent your Holy Spirit to be the life and light of your church: open our hearts to the riches of your grace, that we may bring forth the fruit of the spirit in love and joy and peace;through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Genesis 37:1-4, 12-28 (page 41)
Romans10:5-15 (page 1135)
Matthew 14:22-33 (page 981)

Todays readings help us to consider what it means to trust God and have faith. We see people in both our readings in absolutely terrifying situations but an encounter with God leads not to destruction but to salvation and growth. Although things can get very bad, if we turn to God then he will take the initiative (the theological term for this is "prevenient grace" if you like to know those things!) and it is up to us to respond. Noone ever threw themselves into God's care to be lost. What will it take for you to do it?

Please pray for:

Children in special need of prayer:

Beau and Flynn, Elizabeth, Joey, Megan, Oliver Bennett, Olivia Bodily

For children from whom God's love & salvation is concealed out of the negligence or short-sightedness of their elders. For Olivia on the occasion of her baptism that this may be the first steps of a life in Christ.

Please pray for the sick and those in need of comfort:

Beryl Tacey, Blaise, Brenda Hobbs, Brian Branch, David Baker, David Coleman, David Reeve, Gill Powell, Honor McKichan, Jazz, Jim Rumins, Joanne Pawlett, John Ramsbotham, Lancy Boniface, Linda Hirons, Pat Milner, Pat Streeton, Paul Branch

For all who are sick or afraid & for those who care for them & worry about them. For those facing their own deaths or those of people they love. That all will realise the passionate love of God for them.

Please give thanks for the lives of those who have died recently & for all who mourn their passing:

John Findlay, Alan Dent, Irene Lister, Pat Edwards

Thank ourGod that the good news of the gospel brings real hope for all of us beyond death & the promise of a new order in earth & heaven.

Give thanks for the lives and legacies of those in the year's mind:

Charlie Ridley, Ted Clarke, Marian Cadwallader, Linda Allcott, Ernie Lloyd, Josephine Bryan, Jim Collins, Beryl Wilkinson, Karen Cleaver, Maurice Marshall

For all those who mourn and whose grief, old or new, God sees & brings His peace. In the power of the spirit we give thanks for those who we have loved who now know Jesus face to face.

Please pray for our clergy and lay ministers:

For all who are called to try to convey the love of Christ to the world, flawed and imperfect as they always are. For our Bishops, Donald and John ; for team clergy , Michael, Nigel, Dawn and Sarah and for John and Rene Stevenson travelling around South Africa

For those in our community:

For all who so desperately need to know God's grace and who do not realise it. For all in need of holiday or respite that they may find the peace and refreshment that they need.

For the work of our churches:

That we may be renewed in the power and conviction of the Holy Spirit and ongoing so that we may see a great move towards God through his partner, the church.
