WHAT'S ON THIS WEEK:

That we may pass our time in rest and quietness...

It is good to see such a gentle calendar because there is a tendency in the church to work work work. Those who run this church and serve it are richly deserving of a quiet period this summer in the spirit of an extended Sabbath. Take the holiday period gently. Enjoy some rest and recreation and give God the glory. And those who are the quiet prayers rather than the busy do-ers in the body of Christ here please hold up to God our churchwardens, treasurers, secretaries, stewardship officers, events organisers, helpers, pastoral carers and PCC members who work endlessly and sometimes thanklessly on behalf of us all,

COLLECT:

Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the church is governed and sanctified: hear our prayer which we offer for all your faithful people, that in their vocation and ministry they may serve you in holiness and truth to the glory of your name: through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

READINGS FOR TODAY:

Psalm 119:105-112 (page 620)
Romans 8:1-11 (page 1134)
Matthew 13:1-9,18-23 (page 978)

I always think that Paul's letter to the Romans is his masterpiece. It speaks truth into the human condition and especially to those who call themselves followers of Christ. We are all prone to getting bloodied and beaten by circumstance and trying to fix things in our own strength. And we forget what it means to be in Christ. It is about living our lives on God's terms and in God's power. And although we still struggle against sin we can do so in his strength and freedom and not in our own weakness and bondage because there is nothing that can separate us from God's love. Enjoy and ponder!

Please pray for:

Children in special need of prayer:

Beau and Flynn, Elizabeth, Joey, Megan, Oliver Bennett

For children from whom God's love & salvation is concealed out of the negligence or short-sightedness of their elders. For Phoebe Pate on her baptism day

Please pray for the sick and those in need of comfort:

Beryl Tacey, Blaise, Bob Jarrett, Brenda Hobbs, Brian Branch, David Baker, David Coleman, David Reeve, Gill Powell, Honor McKichan, Jazz, Jenni Burton, Jim Rumins, Joanne Pawlett, John Ramsbotham, Lancy Boniface, Linda Hirons, Pat Edwards, Pat Streeton, Paul Branch

For all who are sick or afraid & for those who care for them & worry about them. For those facing their own deaths or those of people they love. That all will realise the passionate love of God for them.

Please give thanks for the lives of those who have died recently & for all who mourn their passing:

Simon Ayriss, Alan Montgomery, John Findlay, Alan Dent, Irene Lister

Thank ourGod that the good news of the gospel brings real hope for all of us beyond death & the promise of a new order in earth & heaven.

Give thanks for the lives and legacies of those in the year's mind:

John Bradshaw, Bob Taylor, Mary Hollis, Shirley Aldridge, Doris Harrison, Edmund Milo, Cyril Hall, Bernard McPike, Anne Waller, Ruth Griffiths, Jack Cockbill, Ken Reader, John Russell-Pearcey, Charles Dex

For all those who mourn and whose grief, old or new, God sees & brings His peace. In the power of the spirit we give thanks for those who we have loved who now know Jesus face to face.

Please pray for our clergy and lay ministers:

For all who are called to try to convey the love of Christ to the world, flawed and imperfect as they always are. For our Bishops, Donald and John ; for team clergy , Michael, Nigel, Dawn and Sarah

For those in our community:

For all who so desperately need to know God's grace and who do not realise it. For Natalie and Gary Reeve as they start married life together and for the Dent, Lister and Caldecourt families mourning the loss of loved ones

For the work of our churches:

That we may be renewed in the power and conviction of the Holy Spirit and ongoing so that we may see a great move towards God through his partner, the church.
